Cuban Elegance
Fundación Amistad and Luly Duke, Founder
and President, cordially invite you to Cuban Elegance, a series
of benefits for Fundación Amistad featuring Michael Connors,
Ph.D., author of "Cuban Elegance" and "Caribbean
Elegance".
Dr. Connors is a noted authority on the art and
life of the West Indies. He received a Ph.D. in Decorative Arts
from New York University, where he now teaches a highly regarded
course on Caribbean furniture and publishes widely in the field.
"Cuban Elegance" is the first significant publication
in decades on Cuban decorative arts and interior design by a U.S.
scholar.
While Cuba has been locked away from the rest of the world for the
past 40 years, its lavish and stylish homes, furniture and decorations,
dating back to Cubas "criollo" plantation aristocracy,
are known to very few outside of the country. Reflecting the social,
cultural, architectural and interior design history of the islands
colonial period and her once prominent sugar, cotton and tobacco
barons, the elegance, beauty and grandeur of Cubas private
houses are revealed in this book for the first time.
